Enraged after being asked to remove shoes before entering the ICU, Lucknow city mayor ordered bulldozer to demolish the hospital, the reports said.

The reports said city mayor Sushma Kharakwal was asked by the doctors to remove her shoes during a visit to the hospital in Lucknow.

However, they added that the request was not taken well by the mayor who argued with the hospital’s administration which later snowballed into heated exchange of words.

The mayor visited the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the hospital on Monday when the incident occurred, the reports said.

Later, posters were put up outside the hospital premises and a bulldozer was brought, the reports said.

However, the situation eased after the police reached the spot, they added.

Suren Kumar, a retired soldier from the Army brigade of the municipal corporation, was being treated at the ICU of Vinayak Medicare, a private hospital located in Thana Bijnaur in Lucknow.

The reports said the hospital administration said the mayor and her colleagues attempted to enter the ICU wearing shoes, which they obstructed.

However, hospital director Mudrika Singh termed the reports of an argument between the staff and the city mayor 'false', they added.

The reports quoting hospital director said the mayor had visited the hospital and interacted with the doctors.

"There was no altercation between them," the hospital said.

"Media and social platforms are circulating misleading news regarding the meeting between the mayor and the doctors. These claims are completely unfounded and should not be propagated," the hospital added.
