Vivek Oberoi avoided political debate while commenting on Cockroach Janta Party but the particular video was edited and shared on social media claiming Vivek dodged question on Sonam Wangchuk's hunger strike.
His team issued a statement calling the video "misleading".
The team also claimed that the circulating clip was edited to remove the journalist's original question and was subsequently shared across social media on July 15, 2026.
Vivek Oberoi issued a clarification on a viral clip that claimed that he dodged the question on Sonam Wangchuk's hunger strike. In the clip when he was asked about the Cockroach Janta Party, the actor called himself "an actor, not a politician", Oberoi said he stays away from political matters but believes everyone should have the freedom to express their views in a healthy democracy.

Vivek's team issued a statement, giving clarification on which they call an "edited video from a media interaction held in Vadodara, Gujarat" on May 23, 2026.
"During that interaction, Mr. Vivek Oberoi was responding to a question from a member of the press regarding the phrase "Cockroach Janta Party." Unfortunately, the circulating clip was edited to remove the journalist's original question and was subsequently shared across social media on 15th July 2026, intentionally presenting Mr. Oberoi's remarks out of context and falsely linking them to Mr. Sonam Wangchuk. This led to the creation and widespread circulation of a completely false narrative across digital platforms," read the statement.
The team further wrote that "Mr. Oberoi's remarks were not directed at Mr. Sonam Wangchuk in any manner. The edited clip has resulted in a serious misrepresentation of his statement and has led to unnecessary speculation, negative commentary, and reputational harm."
In the viral clip, Vivek, reacting to the question said, “Yaar main abhineta hun, neta nahi hun. Toh main political cheezon pe dhyaan nahi deta hun. Hum toh observe karte hai, seekhte hai. Life mein bahut kuch dekhne aur seekhne ko mil raha hai (I'm an actor, not a politician. So I don't involve myself in political matters. I simply observe and learn. Life is giving me plenty of opportunities to watch, experience, and learn).”
