Recently, a few Maldivian politicians made disparaging remarks on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to the Lakshadweep Islands. It irked the Indians and created a stir on social media. Not only common people but several celebrities and cricketers took to social media to condemn. They expressed their solidarity and also encouraged the citizens of India to promote and explore the beauty of the archipelago. Actor Ranveer Singh also joined the bandwagon to promote the islands as a tourist destination. But he made a goof-up, due to which he had to delete his post.

Ranveer actor took to X (formerly Twitter) and urged everyone to explore Lakshadweep and experience India's culture. "This year let's make 2024 about exploring India and experiencing our culture. There is so much to see and explore across the beaches and the beauty of our country... Chalo India let's #exploreindianislands Chalo bharat dekhe," he wrote. The blunder he made was that he shared a picture of Maldives alongside the post for which he got brutally trolled.

However, later, he rectified his gaffe by deleting the post and sharing another post on the same platform without any image.

Actors and cricketers like Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar, John Abraham, Varun Dhawan, Tiger Shroff, Kangana Ranaut, Shraddha Kapoor, Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag and Hardik Pandya among others had appealed to people to "explore Indian islands" and coastal destinations instead of going to Maldives.

Meanwhile, the Maldivian government suspended three deputy ministers on Sunday after they used social media to make negative comments against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The PM was in Lakshadweep on January 2 and 3 to inaugurate several projects. He also went snorkelling to explore the underwater life of the sea. Modi was also seen going for morning walks on the beaches.
