ASTRO Member Cha Eun-woo Begins Military Service: I'll Be Back Safe And Healthy

ASTRO member Cha Eun-woo started his mandatory military service on July 28. Ahead of his enlistment he shared a heartfelt message for his fans.

Singer-actor Cha Eun-woo, of ASTRO band, started his mandatory military service on Monday, July 28. He will serve in the Korean Army’s brass band after the completion of his five-week basic training. Ahead of his enlistment, Eun-woo shared a heartfelt livestream on YouTube, Sunday night. His 18-month enlistment period is expected to end in January 2027.

Eun-woo was seen in a buzz cut, and called the experience "surreal." He added, "This is the shortest my hair’s been since I was a toddler." He also promised his fans that he will be back "safe and healthy." "I wish all the best for you all."

"I’m grateful and thankful. I’ve been doing well meeting people. I miss AROHA (referring to his official fanbase) too," he said further, and concluded with an emotional message, "It still doesn't feel real yet. Still, since albums, movies, and dramas will all be coming out, please don't forget me. I’ll come back healthy and well. I wish you all luck in everything you do. I won't get hurt and will always be careful.. Erm, how do I turn off the live? Once again, thank you and love you."

Taking to his Instagram handle, Eun-woo also shared a few pictures with ASTRO members Jinjin, Sanha, and MJ, and late Moonbin’s sister Moon Sua, to live his final moments with them.

Earlier, Eun-woo's agency Fantagio released a statement thanking fans for their support and requested for encouragement as he prepares for his new journey.

Eun-woo, who is known for his roles in True Beauty and Island, did a cover of Free, the popular song from Netflix hit film, KPop Demon Hunters.

Also, he has shot for Netflix's The WONDERfools, where he will be seen with Park Eun-bin. The 28-year-old will also be seen in a film titled First Ride, which marks his big screen debut. His recent appearance was in Wonderful World with Kim Nam Joo.
