‘Ponniyin Selvan 2’ Box Office: Mani Ratnam’s Period Drama Crosses Rs 300 Crore-Mark Globally

The second installment of Mani Ratnam's epic duology, however, is still trailing behind ‘Ponniyin Selvan 1’ in terms of box office collection.

The second film in director Mani Ratnam’s ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ duology is having a great run in theatres. After two weeks of its release, ‘Ponniyin Selvan 2’ has entered the Rs 300 crore club at the worldwide box office. At the domestic box office, ‘Ponniyin Selvan 2’ recently passed the Rs 150 crore mark.

However, not to miss, despite the fantastic business, the film is still trailing behind its predecessor, ‘Ponniyin Selvan 1’, which entered the global Rs 300 crore club in a matter of just six days. 

The news of the updated box office collection was shared by Lyca Productions. The banner tweeted, “#PS2 continues conquering the box office worldwide with a 300 crore collection!”

Meanwhile, industry tracker Sacnilk shared the film’s collections on day 11, and revealed that ‘Ponniyin Selvan 2’ earned Rs 4 cr across India on Monday, taking the total collections in the country to Rs 156.5 crore.

For the unversed, ‘Ponniyin Selvan 2’ is based on a five-part novel of the same name written by Kalki Krishnamurthy. The film boasts of an ensemble cast including actors Vikram, Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Trisha, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sobhita Dhulipala, Prakash Raj, Jayaram, Prabhu, R Sarathkumar, Parthiban, Rahman, and Vikram Prabhu.

Though the film is still behind ‘Ponniyin Selvan 1’, it has been garnering praise from the audience and critics alike.
