The races for the UEFA Competitions crowns are hotting up. Earlier this week, 16 teams exited the UEFA Champions League 2023-24 in its entirety, with eight dropping into the UEFA Europa Legaue 2023-24, and eight exiting European tournaments completely. Among the latter were Manchester United and Newcastle United, who both finished bottom of their respective Champions League groups. The likes of Arsenal, Manchester City, Real Madrid, and Paris Saint-Germain, meanwhile, progressed to the next round and will learn their next opponents on the draw on Monday, December 18, 2023. Similar movements happened in UEFA's Tiers 2 and 3 competitions, albeit with a slight caveat. In those tournament, the eight group winners progressed directly to the Round-of-16 while the eight runners up will now contest a playoff with the relegated teams. As such, a team which finished third in the Champions League will play a two-legged tie with one that finished second in the Europa League, with the winner advancing to the Round-of-16.
