Indian javelin ace Neeraj Chopra defeated Germany’s Julian Weber to win the men’s javelin throw title at the Paris Diamond League 2025 on Friday.
The two-time Olympic medallist sealed the victory at the Stade Sebastien Charlety with a throw of 88.16m on his very first attempt. Weber, whose best effort of 87.88m also came in the opening round, couldn’t surpass Chopra’s mark as the Indian held firm to take the top spot.
It was Chopra's first Diamond League win in two years, and also the first time this season he managed to get the better of the German.
Brazil’s Luiz Maurício da Silva took third with a new South American record of 86.62m. The 2012 Olympic champion from Trinidad and Tobago, Keshorn Walcott, finished fourth with 81.66m, while Grenada’s Anderson Peters, the 2022 world champion and Paris 2024 bronze medallist, came fifth with 80.29m.
Paris marked Chopra's second Diamond League appearance of the season after Doha, where he crossed the 90m mark for the first time with a personal best of 90.23m, improving on his earlier 89.94m.
He began his 2025 campaign with a win at an invitational meet in Potchefstroom, South Africa, with a throw of 84.52m.
This was his first appearance at the Paris Diamond League in eight years, he last competed here in 2017 as a junior world champion, finishing fifth with 84.67m.
Chopra's next stop will be the Ostrava Golden Spike in the Czech Republic on June 24, followed by the inaugural Neeraj Chopra Classic in Bengaluru on July 5, a World Athletics category A meet that he is hosting.
