We now have another 8-0. A few days after Pakistan raced to an 8-0 lead over Sri Lanka in their ICC Cricket World Cup head-to-head records with a facile win, Pakistan faced the ignominy of losing another match against India -- a thrashing by any yardstick at the hands of their bitter rivals -- on Saturday, October 14. The seven-wicket defeat with 117 balls remaining at Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium meant that now Pakistan themselves have a 0-8 reverse against their arch-rivals. The build-up to the latest iteration of arguably the greatest cricketing rivalry was centered around India's unblemished record against Pakistan, and the onus was on Babar Azam & Co. to put their best foot forward. But that wasn't the case, sadly. Pakistan, asked to bat by India captain Rohit Sharma, did get off to a great start, but collapsed like ninepins under relentless pressure from an Indian bowling unit led by Jasprit Bumrah. From 155 for 2 in the 30th over, Pakistan got all out for 191 in 42.5 overs -- losing eight wickets for just 36 runs. If that's not enough, Pakistani pacers -- known for their fiery pace and skills -- capitulated as India set about chasing their target, a paltry one at that, nonchalantly. Shubman Gill, who had a bout with dengue, set the tone with a flurry of boundaries, even as Rohit Sharma (86 off 63) continued from where he left off (against Afghanistan). Thus, India's victory march in the home World Cup continues. This, for the record, was India's second successive successful run chase inside 35 overs. Up next, they face Bangladesh in Pune on Thursday. Pakistan, meanwhile, will travel a little further to Bengaluru for their clash against Australia on Friday.
