ENG Vs IND, 3rd ODI: Rishabh Pant, Hardik Pandya Seal Series For India

India registered their tenth ODI series win against England with a five-wicket victory in the third and final match at Old Trafford, Manchester on Sunday. Bowling first, India let England off the hook, allowing the hosts to score 259. Then got off to a shaky start, losing four wickets for 72 runs in 17 overs. But Rishabh Pant and Hardik Pandya ensured that India end the tour on a winning note. India thus won the series 2-1.

But it was a tricky chase. Pant was subdued at the start even as Pandya hit the ground running from ball one. They added 133 runs in 115 balls for the fifth wicket. Pandya, who earlier recorded his best bowling figures in ODIs, got out for 71 off 55. He thus became only the fifth Indian to score fifty runs and take four or more wickets in an ODI, after Kris Srikkanth, Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly (2) and Yuvraj Singh (2). The India all-rounder also became only the second player, after Pakistan's Mohammad Hafeez, to do so in all three formats of the game. Then Pant took over. A maiden ODI century in 105 balls, and 125 not out off 113 balls, including six fours off the last seven balls.

Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to bowl first. India made one change, bringing in Mohammed Siraj in place of Jasprit Bumrah, who suffered a niggle. England fielded the same XI, which thrashed India by 100 runs in the second match.

Siraj claimed two early wickets, those of Jonny Bairstow and Joe Root. But Jason Roy and Ben Stokes revived England, then Jos Buttler played a captain's knock, hitting 60 off 80. Later, Craig Overton hit 32 off 33 as England reached a fighting 259. But it proved too little.
