Write To The Prime Minister!

Our political parties have got us into this mess. We'll have to pull ourselves out of it on our own. All that Kiran Nagarkar asks is that you enter your name to this letter.

Shall we give it a shot? Shall we test the waters? For the moment it’s a mere matter of putting down your name using the link given at the bottom. One signature won’t make much of a difference, you think? We think it does, but let’s not argue about that. We are aiming at 10 lakh. And more. What I am about to suggest may appear naïve. It doesn’t make a difference which party you belong to or vote for. Our political parties have got us into this mess. We’ll have to pull ourselves out of it on our own. This is what you are signing up for: "Surprise us, Atal."

Dear Atalji,So, for every time you’ve taken a step in the right direction and for the good of the whole country, you’ve pulled back and reneged because your party and your fundamentalist base has pressured you. But we the people are much bigger and stronger than these narrow-minded bigots. And we are behind you.

Go for it, Atalji. Break the deadlock that has plagued Ayodhya. Despite what the hardliners say, it’s not the most important thing the Hindus of this country are concerned with. A few bigots whose political future depends on the temple issue are sustaining it. The time for temple politics is over. We the people of this country are behind you. Take a look at the number of signatures on this letter (there are many more coming and they are going to jam the internet) and you’ll know just how much we want you to succeed.

Make peace Atal, not war. Just don’t give up, that’s all.

Yours,
Kiran Nagarkar
