Uttar Pradesh Police Kills Absconding Criminal In Encounter In Ghaziabad

The deceased criminal caused the death of a young student while trying to snatch her phone from an auto-rickshaw on the road. He has 12 cases registered against him, said the police.

A notorious criminal, with a reward on his arrest in a robbery case involving a first-year BTech student, was killed in an encounter with the police in Ghaziabad, as reported by officials on Monday.

The student, Kirti Singh (19), had sustained serious injuries when two motorcycle-borne individuals forcibly pulled her from an auto-rickshaw on Friday, attempting to snatch her phone while she was returning home from college. After falling from the moving auto-rickshaw, the girl struck a road divider, resulting in severe head injuries.

She was hospitalized and placed on a ventilator but sadly passed away on Sunday night, according to Deputy Commissioner of Police, Ghaziabad, Vivek Chand Yadav.

The Station House Officer (SHO) of Masoori Police Station, Ravindra Chand Pant, faced suspension for neglecting his duty, and two sub-inspectors, Tanvir Alam and Punit Singh, were transferred to the police lines in response to the snatching incident, as stated by Yadav.

Late on Sunday night, Ghaziabad police established a checkpoint in the Masoori police station area and instructed two individuals on a motorcycle to stop. However, they attempted to escape and opened fire at the police, injuring a sub-inspector. In the exchange of fire that followed, one of the suspects was wounded, while the other managed to evade capture. The injured individual was taken to a hospital but did not survive.

The deceased was identified as Jitendra, who had 12 cases registered against him. He had been evading the authorities in connection with the robbery that occurred on October 27, resulting in the student's death. A reward of Rs 25,000 had been offered for his capture, as confirmed by the police.

On Saturday night, the other snatcher, known as Bobbil, was apprehended by the Masoori Police after a confrontation.

Meanwhile, Kirti's father has called for stringent punishment for the robbers.
