The Indian National Congress emerged victorious in Telangana, the only state among the five that went to polls earlier this month where the Congress managed to secure a win. The Congress secured 64 seats out of the total 119.
The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), which had been in power, faced a setback with only 39 seats in its favour. In response to the defeat, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao resigned from his post on Sunday.
The election results reflected a combination of factors, including anti-incumbency sentiments, dissatisfaction among the youth, and lingering disappointment over unfulfilled promises. This marks the first time since the formation of the state in 2014 that Telangana will witness a change in government.
Termed as semi-finals, these elections hold immense significance for both the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The outcome is expected to set the tone for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections next year, making it a crucial political juncture.
The state will now witness a transition of power, with the Congress gearing up to form the new government.
