The Hindu Mahasabha's attempt to celebrate the birth anniversary of Nathuram Godse, the assassin of Mahatma Gandhi, was reportedly foiled by the police in Gwalior.

The right-wing organization had planned the event in Daulatganj area, but the police received prior information and intervened to prevent the celebration. Inspector Damodar Gupta of Kotwali police station stated that upon reaching the spot, they found people carrying a picture of Godse on the road and immediately pushed the Hindu Mahasabha workers back towards their office. The police are said to be monitoring the situation closely.

However, the Hindu Mahasabha's vice president, Jaiveer Bharadwaj, claimed that their district unit had instead chosen to distribute fruits to the poor on Godse Jayanti.

The controversial figure of Nathuram Godse, who assassinated Mahatma Gandhi, remains a contentious subject in India. In 2017, the Gwalior district administration had removed a Godse bust from the Mahasabha's office, and the organization has previously observed November 15 as 'Balidan Divas' (sacrifice day) to commemorate Godse's execution in 1949.
