Maharashtra: 1 Killed And Several Others Injured In A Clash Over 'Objectionable' Social Media Post In Satara

An objectionable social media post led to tension between two communities in Pusesawali village in Satara district which prompted violence. Police have stepped up security in some areas while some individuals have been detained.

A clash broke out between two communities in a village in Maharashtra leading to the death of a person. Seven to eight people were injured in the clash over an 'objectionable' post on social media.

The police informed the media that the incident took place in the Pusesawali village in Khatao tehsil on Sunday night. The Internet services had to be suspended in the district as a precautionary measure.

Some houses were also damaged in the incident, as per a senior district administration official. The police said they have detained some persons.

A senior police official told PTI that one person was killed and seven to eight others were injured in the incident.

"An objectionable post by some youth from a community triggered tension between two communities, leading to communal clashes and disturbance in law and order," another police official reportedly said. 

The police promptly responded, and the situation is now under control.

"As a precautionary measure, we have suspended Internet services in the district and we urge the public not to fall prey to any rumours," the official said.

Security has been stepped in the area and some individuals have been detained, the police added.
