2 Army Officers, 2 Soldiers Killed During Encounter In Jammu Kashmir’s Rajouri Forests

Two army officers and two soldiers were killed on Wednesday following a fierce encounter with militants in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district.

The reports said the encounter broke out between security forces and militants in Rajouri’s Kalakote forests.

The encounter started after army's special forces and police launched a a joint operation following intelligence inputs about the presence of terrorists in the forest area, NDTV reported.

Three of the deceased have been identified as Captain MV Pranjal of 63 Rashtriya Rifles, and Captain Shubham and Havildar Majid of 9 PARA, Indian Express reported.

The report said that the militants are believed to be six in number.

The report said the militant group appear to be a fresh group that recently infiltrated from across the Line of Control.

The Pir Panjal forest in Jammu and Kashmir have proved to be a challenge for the security forces in the last few years following a series of encounters, the report mentioned.

“The terrorists use the dense forests to conceal their positions, taking advantage of the topography. Terrorists take advantage of treacherous mountains, dense jungles and the alpine forests to hide their positions,” it stated.

Last week, a militant was killed in an encounter with security forces in the Rajouri district.

The encounter broke out in the morning during a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) by a joint team of army, police and CRPF in Guller-Behrote area of Budhal tehsil.
