Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson, despite an impressive performance, faced a critical fumble in a matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday night that had a significant impact on the game.
In the second quarter, Jefferson lost control of the ball as he reached for the end zone following a 30-yard reception. The fumble resulted in the Eagles gaining possession at their 20-yard line after the ball went out of bounds in the end zone. At that point, the Eagles were leading 10-7, and this turnover allowed them to extend their lead to 27-7 before the Vikings made a late-game surge, ultimately falling short.

Jefferson, who finished the night with a remarkable 11 catches for 159 yards, took full responsibility for the fumble. Addressing reporters after the game, he acknowledged the gravity of the error and pledged to learn from it. “I'm putting it a lot on myself. Fumbling in the end zone like that when we need points and we’re driving and having that momentum. I was telling my teammates that’s on me and it won’t happen again,” he said.
The Vikings struggled with turnovers throughout the game, accumulating four in total. In their first two games of the season, they have a total of six turnovers, highlighting the need for a collective effort to rectify the issue and secure victories in the weeks ahead.

Despite the fumble setback, Jefferson achieved a significant milestone during the game. With a 3-yard catch that converted a crucial third down, he surpassed 5,000 receiving yards in just his 52nd regular-season game, matching Hall of Fame receiver Lance Alworth's record for the quickest to achieve this milestone in NFL history.
