Baby Shark Boy begins his music career with JOOHONEY collaboration.
‘WAVE’ blends the viral melody with electropop, trap and K-pop.
Baby Shark Dance has crossed 17.2 billion YouTube views worldwide.
A decade after becoming one of the faces of Baby Shark Dance, Baby Shark Boy is ready to be known for something beyond the viral children's song. The performer, whose real name is Park Geon-roung, has launched his music career with WAVE, a new electropop and trap track featuring Monsta X's JOOHONEY.
Baby Shark Boy starts a new chapter with ‘WAVE’
The single opens with the instantly recognisable Baby Shark melody before moving into a dance-focused track. Geon-roung has also contributed to the lyrics, turning the song into a reflection on how his childhood fame shaped his journey.
In a statement shared with Billboard, Baby Shark Boy described Baby Shark Dance as the “first wave” of his career. He said he had grown up riding that wave and was now beginning a new chapter as Baby Shark Boy.
From viral child star to aspiring musician
The scale of the original phenomenon is difficult to ignore. Baby Shark Dance has crossed 17.2 billion YouTube views, making it the platform's most-viewed video. The song also reached No. 32 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2019.
Now, Geon-roung hopes WAVE will help audiences see him differently. In his statement to Billboard, he said the idea of moving forward had been put into the song and expressed hope that listeners would see “who I am today in a new way”.
His transition will also be explored in WAVE: Becoming Baby Shark Boy, a behind-the-scenes documentary being prepared by The Pinkfong Company. The company is also considering further collaborations, including a possible appearance in a Baby Shark film expected in winter 2026.
