Directed by debutant Ambiecka Pandit and written by Amita Vyas, the crime drama also stars Barun Sobti, Anshumaan Pushkar and Rajesh Kumar in pivotal roles.
Babita Singh Reporting trailer reveals a murder mystery
The trailer follows Babita, known as Baby, a police officer who has been suspended for two weeks. Her situation changes when her childhood friend Bansi, played by Barun Sobti, is murdered. Despite being off duty, she begins following clues surrounding his death.
Her investigation soon takes her into uncomfortable territory. While Baby tries to piece together what happened, tensions at home, a conservative family environment and a distant husband make it difficult for her to focus solely on the case. The mystery also appears to force her to confront aspects of her own life.
Nimisha Sajayan on playing Babita
The film aims to combine its murder mystery with a closer look at the pressures faced by women. Director Ambiecka Pandit said the investigation was designed to uncover more than the circumstances of the murder, while also exploring how women can have their emotions dismissed and are often expected to keep adjusting.
For Nimisha Sajayan, the role had a more personal impact. The actor said Babita made her look inward and reconsider her relationships, particularly the ways people adjust without always realising it. She described the character as one she would carry with her for a long time.
With Sudip Sharma as executive producer, Babita Singh Reporting is backed by Film Squad Productions in association with Act Three. The film will premiere on Prime Video on August 28.
