One of the most popular tourist destinations Maldives is currently grabbing the headlines for all the wrong reasons. India has boycotted it after three politicians of Maldives mocked PM Narendra Modi. It created a hoopla all over social media, sparking calls from Indian citizens including celebs.

Several actors and cricketers including Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar, Tiger Shroff, Ranveer Singh, John Abraham, Shraddha Kapoor, Hardik Pandya and Sachin Tendulkar among others joined the chorus against Maldives. They took to social media to urge people to explore the beauty of the domestic beaches including Lakshadweep Islands. Actor, comedian and Emmy Award-winner Vir Das has also reacted to the backlash against Maldives.

Das took to X (formerly Twitter) to take a dig at the Indian influencers and celebs, who ''didn’t eat carbs for two weeks, took the best vacation photos'' but are ''terrified'' now to post them on social media.

On Monday, he tweeted, "Firstly, happy Lakshadweep is getting some love! Secondly, somewhere in the Maldives, right now, is an Indian celebrity/ influencer, who didn’t eat carbs for two weeks, took the best vacation photos ever, and is TERRIFIED to post them."

In another tweet, he wrote, “Next actor to post a honeymoon photo from Madh Island is getting a National Award. Pakka (for sure).”

Vir also tweeted, “Remember thinking Epstein (Jeffrey Epstein) would be the most discussed island this week?”

For the unversed, the Maldives controversy started after PM Modi shared images of himself on the X platform, where he was seen snorkelling and walking along a beach in Lakshadweep.

Post which, three Maldives officials commented on the pics calling Modi a “clown,” “terrorist” and a “puppet of Israel,” according to Reuters.
