Veteran filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt underwent an angioplasty at Mumbai’s HN Reliance Hospital in January after doctors raised a ‘red-flag’. Albeit, he is now “alive and kicking.”
Bhatt told Bollywood Hungama, “My procedure was planned for January 16. It was during a routine body check-up that the doctors raised a ‘red flag’ and suggested that, since I am in good health, we must take a pre-emptive step and deal with this.” He added, “I was in the hands of the best of the best team of doctors at the H.N Reliance Hospital. The procedure was on January 16. I was home on January 18. I am alive and kicking.”
While it was reported by several portals that he underwent a heart surgery, the filmmaker said that it is “technically incorrect to call this procedure a surgery.”

Bhatt’s son Rahul too gave an update on his father’s health, and told The Times of India, “But all’s well that ends well. He is alright now and back home. I cannot give you more details as too many people were not allowed in the hospital.”
Meanwhile, the 74-year-old filmmaker turned a grandfather last year after his daughter Alia Bhatt gave birth to Raha Kapoor. On his new responsibility as a grandparent, Bhatt had earlier told PTI, “It’s the most challenging role I have to play as a grandfather. When I heard that she is going to have a baby, (I was like) ‘Ah, my baby’s going to have a baby’.”
He added, “I had hardly recovered from the phenomenal challenge that she displayed in recent years and kind of stunned the nation as well. And her magic was all in itself awesome. Then the magic that she is going to be a vehicle of life left me awestruck.”
Mahesh last took to the director’s chair with ‘Sadak 2’, starring Alia Bhatt, Aditya Roy Kapur and Sanjay Dutt. The film failed at the box office.
