Filmmaker Sean Baker's Anora scored big at the 97th Academy Awards, held on March 2, at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood. The dark romantic comedy-drama won five Oscars, out of six it was nominated for. It won for Best Directing, Film Editing, and Original Screenplay. Mikey Madison received her first Oscar- Best Actress for her role in Anora.
After its theatrical release in India in November last year, and the film bagging several accolades at the prestigious award ceremonies, audiences have been eagerly waiting for its OTT release. Now, after the big Oscar win, the excitement to watch the film has increased.

Anora will be available to stream on JioHotstar on March 17. The streaming platform announced it a few hours ago as its March watchlist, confirming that the Oscar-winning film is set to premiere in mid-March.

Anora, produced, written, directed, and edited by Sean Baker, was made on a budget of $6 million. It made a gross collection of $41 million worldwide, the highest-grossing film of Baker.

The official synopsis of the film reads: “Anora, a young sex worker from Brooklyn, gets her chance at a Cinderella story when she meets and impulsively marries the son of an oligarch. Once the news reaches Russia, her fairytale is threatened as the parents set out for New York to get the marriage annulled''.
Top honours for Anora
Anora bagged six nominations at Oscars 2025- Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor category. Except the last one, the film received Oscars in the remaining five.
The film won the Palme d’Or at the 77th Cannes Film Festival. It also received accolades at the Producers Guild of America and Writers Guild of America Awards. Mikey Madison also triumphed with the BAFTA Award for Best Actress.
