Aditi Rao Hydari On Filming ‘Heeramandi’ Song ‘Azadi’: We Shot The Song Twice, And Each Time, I Had Tears In My Eyes

The actress talks about filming the evocative song ‘Azadi’ under the guidance of Sanjay Leela Bhansali for ‘Heeramandi’.

It’s almost been a month since the release of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s OTT debut, ‘Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar’. However, the talk around the much-loved series refuses to die down. Interestingly, Aditi Rao Hydari's portrayal as a tawaif Bibbojaan, has been getting love from all the corners. 

Sharing the ethereal essence of the series, Aditi recalled her experience filming the evocative song ‘Azadi’ under the guidance of Sanjay Leela Bhansali. She said, "The Azadi song is my favourite. Every time you hear it, it  lingers.. It's very evocative. The lyrics are also so moving. We shot the song twice, and each time I lip-synced, my eyes would well up with pride. It had an anthem-like quality and gave me goosebumps. I remember the first time I heard it, I looked at Sir and I was just like, how does he do it? You can feel his passion in every note. It’s incredible and overwhelming”

Not to miss, the series, under Sanjay Leela Bhansali's masterful direction, has several soul-stirring musical compositions, which aid to the show’s poignant storytelling. From the rhythms of the ‘Basant’ song to the depths of ‘Azadi,’ the show not just has stunning visuals which unfolds as a mesmerising musical journey as well. Bhansali's discerning taste in music shines through with his collection of six exceptional songs, each a masterpiece in its own right, including ‘Sakal Ban’ and ‘Saiyaan Hatto Jaao’ and the ethereal melodies of ‘Chaudhavi Shab’ and ‘Nazariya ki Maari’. 

Coming to ‘Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar’, the show premiered on May 1 on Netflix, and stars Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Richa Chadha, Sanjeeda Sheikh, Sharmin Segal Mehta and Taha Shah Badussha.
