It was a historic day for Indian women's hockey team as they defeated heavyweights Australia to enter the semifinal of Tokyo Olympics. Ensuring themselves a maiden semifinals appearance, Rani's team beat Australia thanks to a Gurjit Kaur’s  goal. Goalkeeper Savita Punia and the defenders played crucial role in keeping the Australians at bay. India play Argentina in the semifinals next on August 4. India's shooters ended on a disappointing note with Sanjeev Rajput and Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar failing to qualify for the medal rounds. In track and field, sprinter Dutee Chand failed to reach the finals, while Kamalpreet Kaur finished creditable sixth in the final of women's discuss. Catch the highlights here:

Emily Campbell of Great Britain is second with a lift of 283kg, while Sarah Robles of USA came third with a lift of 282kg.

Mijan Lopez of Cuba wins men's Greco-Roman 130kg gold medal.
Iakobi Kajaia of Georgia came second, while  Riza Kayaalp of Turkey and  Sergei Semenov of ROC took home bronze medal.

The event has been suspended for the time being till the rain stops. USA's Valarie Allman is leading, followed by Cuba's Yaime Perez and German Kristin Pudnez second and third, respectively.

INDIA'S Kamalpreet Kaur is placed seventh.  The weather is also affecting the women's pole vault qualifying competition.

Last four throwers will be eliminated after third round. It's raining now and the throwers will have difficult time in gripping the discus.

China's Bao Shanju and Zhong Tianshi beat Germany's Lea Friedrich and Emma Hinze in the final to win gold. Daria Schmeleva and Anastasiia Voinova of ROC take bronze after beating Dutch pair.

Wang Zhouyu of China takes gold, ahead of Tamara Salazar of Ecuador and Crismery Santana of the Dominican Republic.

China's Zhang Changhong creates a new world record en route to gold medal. Sergey Kamenskiy of ROC and Milenko Sebic of Serbia take silver and bronze respectively.

And with that shooting competitions at the Games come to an end. China top shooting medal tally with 11 medals (four gold, one silver and six bronze). USA (six with three gold) and ROC (8 with two gold) finish second and third. India shot blank.

Indonesia's unseeded pair, Polii Greysia and Apriyani Rahayu, beats China's second seeds Chen Qing Chen and Jia Yi Fan in straight games (21-19, 21-15) to win gold medal. In the bronze medal match, Kim Soyeong and Kong Heeyong beat fourth seeds Lee Sohee and Shin Seungchan in all-Korean final (21-10, 21-17).

But Indian shooters continue to disappoint. last day of shooting competition and India's hopes were pinned on Sanjeev Rajput and Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar. But both failed to qualify for the final. Aishwary finishes 21st with 1167 points (Kneeling - 397, Prone - 391, Standing - 379) and Rajput, 32nd with 1157 (Kneeling - 387, Prone - 393, Standing - 377).

Dutee Chand finishes seventh with a timing of 23.85 sec and is out.

Sanjeev Rajput, now into his third Olympics, and young Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar on his Olympic debut, will present India’s final challenge at the Asaka shooting range on Monday. The duo will feature in the men's 50m Rifle 3 Positions (3P) qualification round.

Rajput and Tomar are ranked sixth and second in the world, respectively, in the most gruelling Rifle/Pistol event. Both Indians will have to fight hard for a top eight spot in a 48-man field that will see the likes of defending Olympic champion Sergey Kamenskiy of Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) and world number one Istvan Peni of Hungary in action.

Kamalpreet Kaur will be a dark horse in the women's discus competition. If Kamalpreet Kaur ends up on the podium, it will be India’s first-ever track-and-field medal at the Olympics. She was one of only two discus throwers to achieve the automatic final qualification mark of 64m in the qualifying rounds on her Olympic debut.
