The Cleveland Cavaliers have extended the contract of president of basketball operations Koby Altman through the 2029-30 season, the team announced Monday.
The Cavaliers also gave symmetrical extensions to Altman’s executive leadership team, including general manager Mike Gansey and assistant GM Brandon Weems.
Altman has been in Cleveland’s front office since 2012 and helped mold the 2016 NBA championship team. He was promoted to general manager in 2017 and was given the president title in 2018.
“Koby not only has a great nose for basketball talent, but he has recruited and developed extraordinary front office talent as well,” Cavaliers chairman Dan Gilbert said in a statement.
“This unique combination has positioned our franchise to compete for championships for years to come. The decision to extend Koby and his team is not solely based on recent success, but rather the entire body of work since he took over the role in 2018.”
Altman was primarily responsible for rebuilding the Cavs after LeBron James left for the Los Angeles Lakers in 2018.
Altman’s front office acquired Donovan Mitchell and Jarrett Allen in consecutive years, and they used lottery picks to select Evan Mobley and Darius Garland.
Cleveland won 64 games last season, earning the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference.
Despite second-round playoff exits in each of the last two seasons, the Cavaliers are expected to be among the contenders in a wide-open East in 2025-26.
