Álex Márquez produced a masterful performance at the Catalan GP to bring brother Marc Marquez’s 15-race win streak to an end, while Enea Bastianini took third for his first podium of the season.

Gresini Racing’s Márquez showcased blistering pace throughout the weekend in Barcelona, setting a new lap record during qualifying and was set for victory in the sprint race before crashing out late in the race.

After the disappointment of missing out on a win in Saturday’s sprint, Márquez was determined to gain a second victory of the season and soon found himself locked in a battle with his brother and championship leader Marc.

The pair took turns leading before Álex gained the advantage and moved away from the rest of the field. With one lap remaining, Marc attempted a late charge but his younger brother found an extra gear as he claimed a deserved victory.

Márquez, 29, said: “The incident from yesterday was still in my head a little bit but I pushed, and I was able to post good lap times. I’m super happy for the team, because in that moment they were always with me pushing, and we're back where the team deserves to be."

Bastianini, 27, said: “I tried to give 100% today and I am really happy to get my first podium of the year. Thanks to my team, my family and also to all the people at home.”

Prima Pramac Racing’s Miguel Oliveira also finished in the points as he claimed ninth place, while reigning world champion Jorge Martin rounded out the top ten.

Elsewhere, Red Bull GASGAS Tech3’s Maverick Viñales took 13th place, with LCR Honda rider Johann Zarco and Red Bull KTM Factory’s Brad Binder both unable to finish the race.
