Messi scored seven minutes into the match then added a second strike in the 72nd minute as the home crowd celebrated wildly.

Messi’s former Barcelona teammate Jordi Alba too made his Inter Miami debut when he entered the match in the 64th minute.

After stadium crew drained water puddles around mid-field, Messi and his teammates re-appeared for a second round of pre-game warm-ups.

Messi has not dealt with inclement weather in his first two Leagues Cup matches since joining the MLS club. He scored the game-winning goal against Cruz Azul and added two goals in a victory over Atlanta United.

The former Barcelona man was let go by PSG after his contract expired with the Ligue 1 club. After being linked with Saudi clubs and Premier League teams, Messi put all the questions to bed by joining David Beckham-owned Inter Miami side.

With a host of European stars headed to Saudi Arabia including the likes of Sadio Mane and Cristiano Ronaldo, Messi's move to the MLS gives a major lift to American 'soccer' and especially the Major League Soccer as a whole.
