Hello and welcome to the Indian Premier League 2024 Player Auction, Blog. Over 300 players, capped, uncapped, Indian, foreign, and from associate nations, went under the hammer in Dubai on Tuesday. 72 players were sold including 30 overseas players. A total of Rs. 2,30,45,00,000 was spent in today's auction with Australia's Mitchell Starc gaining the highest bid for 24,75,00,000. Chennai Super Kings, the reigning champions added the New Zealand duo of Daryl Mitchell and Rachin Ravindra along with Indian uncapped player Sameer Rizvi. Gujarat Titans added Australian pace battery Spencer Johnson, Indian power-hitter Shahrukh Khan, and Indian bowlers Umesh Yadav and Kartik Tyagi. Mallika Sagar will become the first Indian female auctioneer to host the auction when the proceedings kick on later in the day. Sagar had 23 years of experience in auctioneering, mostly with art, and was also the auctioneer tasked with finding players new homes in the bygone Women's Premier League auction.

The teams have been busy in the window pre-auction, shoring up their final lists of retained players and releasing those who they deemed surplus to requirements. During this time, trades, too, had transpired, with Hardik Pandya's return to Mumbai Indians rightly grabbing all the headlines.
