Liverpool star Diogo Jota has reportedly died in a car crash, according to local media in Spain. The 28-year-old Portuguese winger was said to be involved in the fatal accident in Zamora, a city in northwestern Spain.

According to Marca, the accident took place on the A52 near the municipality of Palacios de Sanabria in Spain. Diogo Jota was reportedly traveling with his brother, Andre, when their vehicle veered off the road.

Just two weeks after marrying his long-time partner Rute Cardoso in Porto, Diogo Jota was tragically involved in a fatal car crash. The Portuguese forward joined Liverpool from Wolverhampton Wanderers in the summer of 2020 and became a key player for the club.

He made 182 appearances, scored 65 goals, and provided 26 assists, contributing to two Premier League title wins during his time at Anfield.

Before his rise at Liverpool, Jota had carved out a steady path across European football. He began his journey in Spain with Atlético Madrid, who signed him from Paços Ferreira in 2016 for €7 million.

Though he scored in a pre-season friendly, he never made a competitive appearance for the first team. Instead, he was loaned out to FC Porto for a season, followed by a move to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

His performances in England quickly caught attention, and Wolves made the move permanent in 2018 for €14 million.

Jota joined Liverpool in September 2020 from Wolverhampton Wanderers in a deal worth £45 million (approximately $61.5 million). Over the next few years, Jota became a reliable presence in the Reds’ attack, helping them clinch three major titles, the Premier League in 2024–25, the FA Cup in 2021–22, and the League Cup in 2021–22.

His sharp movement, intelligent link-up play, and knack for scoring in big moments made him a fan favourite at Anfield.
