Amid speculations and uncertainties, the Government of India on Saturday issued a notification for the special session of the Parliament.

The special session of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha would be held on September 18-22. Though Union Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Prahlad Joshi announced  that special session on Thursday, the notifications came only on Saturday.

In a tweet, Joshi said that the special session would have five sittings. Without laying out agenda of the session, he said, "Amid Amrit Kaal looking forward to have fruitful discussions and debate in Parliament."

The lack of clarity about the agenda of the special session of the parliament has given rise to several speculations. It is being wondered that the Narendra Modi government could bring some critical legislation like uniform civil code (UCC) or prepone general elections slated to be held early next year. Notably, shortly after the announcement of the session, the Modi government formed a committee under the leadership of former President Ram Nath Kovind to look into the possibility of 'one nation, one election'.

The PTI reported sources as saying that the "special session" could see parliamentary operations being shifted to the new Parliament building which was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 28.

Notably, the parliament's special session would not include question hour or private members' business.

The speculation that the special session could be the last of this Lok Sabha has further been fuelled arrangements are being made for a group photo of MPs, reported PTI, but it has also been said that the group photo could be arranged for because of a possible shift to the new parliament building. The group photo of MPs are taken twice during Lok Sabha's term, once in the first session and once in the last
