The Parliament is set to discuss Operation Sindoor in its July 28 session as the Opposition demanded on July 21, the beginning of the monsoon session. Before the debate on Operation Sindoor could start, a new political row erupted amongst both the BJP and the opposition party members on the Ex-Home Minister of India P. Chidambram's remarks stating that the terrorist can be homegrown citing the lack of evidence about the terrorists identity and origin
After this the BJP accused the congress of giving “clean chit to Pakistan” and bending over backwards to “protect the enemy” and sounding more like Islamabad's Defence Lawyers rather than the Indian opposition.
In an interview with The Quint, the ex- Home Minister accused the government of not disclosing the follow up work done by the NIA in the aftermath of the Pahalgam attack. “Have they identified the terrorists? Where they came from? I mean, for all we know they could be homegrown terrorists. Why do you assume they came from Pakistan? There’s no evidence of that,” he said.
The Centre and the security establishment have multiple times told the nation that the terrorists who conducted the attack killing 26 people in the Pahalgam valley were Pakistani nationals.
Chidambram also accused the government of hiding the losses incurred by the army during the Operation Sindoor stating that no clear statement has been issued by the government stating the total loss suffered by the Army. He further added that “ I said it in a column that during a war both sides will incur losses. I understand that India has suffered losses. Be upfront”.
The senior Opposition leader also questioned the Prime Minister’s silence on the claim of Donald Trump to be the mediator of India and Pakistan’s peace talk. He added that one side is saying that trump had a role in the ceasefire and we are oblitely denying saying that he has no role in the ceasefire. If he had a role why not accept it.
Malviya also added that “Once again the congress rushes to give a clean chit to Pakistan this time after the Pahalgam terror attack. He further questioned “Why is that every time our forces confront Pakistan- sponsored terrorism. The Congress leaders sound more like Islamabad's defence lawyer rather than India’s opposition”
He further said that “ When it comes to national security there should be no ambiguity but with congress there never is - they always bend over backwards to protect the enemy
BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonewala accused congress of giving a clean chit to Pakistan hours ahead of the Parliamentary debate “26/11 to surgical strike to pahalgam Congress ka haath Pakistan ke saath ”
On the other hand Congress MP Imran Masood has backed Mr. Chidambram by stating that it was the government that gave a clean chit to Pakistan by agreeing to the ceasefire. “ You stopped the forces you brought India and Pakistan to the same level on the global stage. The terrorists are still alive. Aren't you ashamed? If the Pahalgam killers are alive then every Indian should be ashamed.
