Continuing with his efforts to cobble grand Opposition against BJP for 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Bihar CM Nitish Kumar on Sunday met his Delhi counterpart Arvind Kejriwal in the national capital.

The report in The Indian Express said Kumar met AAP supremo at his residence in Delhi in the morning.

Kumar’s meeting with Kejriwal is part of the mission to unite like-minded opposition parties to cobble up a grand opposition alliance against the BJP ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

“The 'Nitish formula', which the Bihar Chief Minister is believed to be presenting to Opposition leaders, suggests one opposition candidate in each parliamentary seat against the BJP -- a Herculean challenge requiring sophisticated political negotiation given the individual aspirations of a divided Opposition.

Earlier, Kejriwal had sought the support of Opposition parties over the Centre’s new ordinance related to control of services in the national capital.

There has been a continuous tussle between Centre and Delhi government over the control of bureaucrats in the national capital. With the special ordinance brought in by the Centre, Delhi LG will be at the total control of the services.

Kejriwal has termed the ordinance as “unconstitutional” and said that his government will move the Supreme Court against it.

“I want to appeal to the Opposition parties to defeat this Bill in Rajya Sabha when it comes to them for clearing. I will speak to each head of party myself and will ask them to oppose the Bill. This is undemocratic and should not be passed,” he had said.

The report in The Indian Express also stated that senior government officials said the ordinance would be supplemented by an additional notification, an order or a circular expected to be issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) early next week.
