Minimum Temperatures Above Normal In Several North Indian States, Sikar Records Lowest At 1.0°C

Chilly temperatures, dense fog warnings, and a complex weather pattern unfold across North India as minimum temperatures fluctuate, fog envelops several states, and rainfall is forecasted in specific regions.

In the past 24 hours until today, minimum temperatures have ranged from 4-8°C across most parts of Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh, Delhi, West Uttar Pradesh, and north Rajasthan. In East Uttar Pradesh, north Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, and south Rajasthan, temperatures have been in the range of 9-12°C. Many areas in Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, East Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Gujarat have experienced temperatures 2-4°C above normal. Sikar in East Rajasthan reported the lowest minimum temperature at 1.0°C.

A cyclonic circulation over Southeast Arabian Sea and adjoining Lakshadweep area, along with a trough extending to south Karnataka in lower tropospheric levels, is influencing the weather. Additionally, a Western Disturbance is present as a cyclonic circulation over Haryana and neighboring areas, with an induced cyclonic circulation over southwest Uttar Pradesh. A trough runs from North Interior Karnataka to the cyclonic circulation over southwest Uttar Pradesh in lower levels.

Expect dense to very dense fog in some parts of Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, and East Rajasthan during January 4th to 6th, with isolated pockets and dense fog likely for the subsequent two days. Dense fog conditions are also anticipated in West Rajasthan on January 5th and 6th, and in isolated pockets on January 7th.

Furthermore, dense to very dense fog is expected for a few hours in the morning in isolated pockets over Bihar on January 5th, with dense fog in some parts on January 6th and 7th. Similar conditions are forecasted for Jammu division, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Odisha, West Bengal & Sikkim, Assam & Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura from January 5th to 7th, and over north Madhya Pradesh on January 5th.

Cold Day to Severe Cold Day conditions are likely to persist in some parts of Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi from January 4th to 6th, and in Uttar Pradesh & Rajasthan on January 4th & 5th.

Minimum temperatures are expected to gradually rise by 2-3°C over East India in the next 3 days, with no significant change in the rest of North India during the next 5 days. Cold wave conditions are likely in isolated pockets over Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan on January 5th & 6th.

Light to moderate rainfall is anticipated at some places in south Tamil Nadu, south Kerala, and Lakshadweep over the next 4-5 days. Isolated heavy rainfall is likely over Tamil Nadu during January 4th to 8th, Kerala during January 4th to 6th, and over Lakshadweep-Coastal Karnataka on January 4th & 5th. Light isolated rainfall is expected over Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, and Jharkhand during January 4th to 6th, and over Uttar Pradesh on January 4th & 5th.
