Heavy rainfall continues to lash North India, leading to the imposition of red alert in Himachal Pradesh where all rivers are overflowing. At least 10 people have died in rain-related incidents in Himachal and neighbouring Uttarakhand.
Seven more people have been killed in rain-related incidents in Uttar Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir.
Heavy rainfall also continues to lash Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has said that heavy to very heavy rainfall is predicted in North and North-West India for next few days.
Rainfall in Delhi also broke a 40-year record on Sunday morning. The government also ordered the closure of schools amid heavy rainfall.

The IMD on Sunday said that widespread rainfall, including isolated spells of heavy to very heavy rainfall, are very likely over the Western Himalayan region, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Rajasthan over the next five days.
The IMD further said, "Isolated extremely heavy rainfall also very likely Uttarakhand, Himachal on 9th July. Isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall likely over Uttar Pradesh during 10th-13th July."

1. All rivers in spate in Himachal, 5 killed amid red alert
At least five deaths were reported in Himachal on Sunday in rain-related incidents. Landslides, flash-floods, and collapse of houses are the primary causes of deaths.

All major rivers are in spate in Himachal and red alert has been issued in the state.
The PTI reported that 14 incidents of landslides and 13 incidents of flash-floods were recorded in the past 36 hours, resulting in the closure of 736 roads. Moreover, 1,743 transformers and 138 water supply schemes were affected on Sunday morning.
In Mandi, a bridge over Beas river was washed away amid heavy rainfall.
The incident was caught on video and the bridge could be seen first tilting sideways and then getting washed away quickly in the raging river.
The railway tracks on Kalka-Shimla railway route in Himachal by rain-induced landslides.
"Reports of shops being swept away in Manali, vehicles being washed away in flash floods at Nullah in Kullu, Kinnaur and Chamba and loss to agricultural land have also poured in. Several roads have also been closed in Shimla districts," reported PTI.
The PTI has reported that the IMD has issued a red alert of extremely heavy rainfall for above 204 mm in 10 out of the 12 districts of Himachal for Sunday.
2. Red alert in Uttarakhand, 5 killed
Red alert has been issued in Uttarakhand amid heavy rainfall that have caused landslides. At least five people have been killed in rain-related incidents.

Three pilgrims were killed in Tehri Garhwal district when a jeep carrying 11 pilgrims fell into Ganga. Two people were killed in the Missarwala village of Kashipur area of Udham Singh Nagar district when two houses collapsed.
3. Rainfall in Delhi breaks 40-year record
Rainfall in Delhi broke 40-year record on Sunday as it recorded 153 mm rain in the 24 hours ending at 8:30 am on Sunday.
The rainfall is the highest in a single day in July since 1982, according to IMD.
Waterlogging has been reported in several parts of Delhi and everyday life has been disrupted. A yellow alert has been issued for Delhi.

Waterlogging was also reported in neigbouring Gurugram in Haryana.
4. Yamuna could breach danger mark in 2 days in Delhi
The Central Water Commission said that the Yamuna River in Delhi could breach the danger mark of 205.33 metres on Tuesday.
The PTI reported, "According to the CWC's flood-monitoring portal, the water level in the Yamuna at the Old Railway Bridge stood at 203.18 metres at 1 pm on Sunday. The warning level is 204.5 metres. The water level is likely to rise to 205.5 metres between 11 am and 1 pm on Tuesday, the CWC said in an advisory."

5. Heavy rainfall disrupts life in Haryana, Punjab
Heavy rainfall has caused severe waterlogging in low-lying areas in Punjab and Haryana.
In Haryana's Ambala, three rivers Markanda, Ghaggar, and Tangri were flowing close to the danger mark, reported PTI.
Officials told PTI that several people residing close to the Tangri bank near Ambala Cantonment have been asked to shift to safer places.
In Mohali, six teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) are being roped in for relief work, according to Deputy Commissioner Aashika Jain.
6. Widespread rainfall lashes Rajasthan
Rainfall also continued in parts of Rajasthan on Sunday. The places that received significant rainfall were parts of Jhunjhunu, Ajmer, and Sikar.

The weather forecast says that light to moderate rains are expected in most parts in eastern Rajasthan for the next two-three days, and, starting July 12, heavy rainfall is likely to reduce in the areas, reported PTI.
An official further told PTI, “After that, there is a possibility of an increase in rain activities due to the revival of monsoon from July 14-15."
7. Damage to roads and trees
Several roads have been damaged from landslides and flash-floods across states and trees have been uprooted at many places.

8. Flood-like situation in Jammu and Kashmir, 4 killed
Four people were killed in Jammu and Kashmir as flood-like situations were reported in the Union Territory.
Two Indian Army personnel were killed in Poonch after they were swept away in a flash-flood while crossing the Dogra Nallah on Saturday.
In another incident, two persons were killed after a landslide hit a passenger bus in Doda district, reported PTI.
Flood-like situation arose in J&K's Bhaderwah district as water level in Neeru river rose due to heavy rains in the region, reported PTI.

9. Widespread rainfall in UP, 3 deaths reported
Uttar Pradesh witnessed widespread rainfall on Sunday. At least three deaths were reported.
A 10-year-old girl died on Sunday when a tree branch fell on the tin shed of her house in Kaushambi, reported PTI, adding that a woman and her six-year-old daughter were killed in Muzaffarnagar.
Earlier on Saturday, two were killed and three were injured in separate incidents of lightning strike in Ballia.
10. Railways cancels 17 trains, diverts 12
Amid heavy rainfall, the Northern Railways has cancelled around 17 trains and diverted around 12 others.
The PTI quoted a Northern Railways spokesperson as saying that traffic has been suspended at the following four locations due to waterlogging: sections between Noganwan (Ambala)-New Morinda, between Nangal Dam and Anandpur Sahib, and between Kiratpur Sahib and Bharatgarh.

"Strict watch is being kept to run trains from the Delhi area safely because of non-stop heavy rains. Eight pumps are being run at the Delhi-Sabzi Mandi area and the station's trainable area to pump water out of tracks. Trains running in the Delhi area are still normal," CPRO Northern Railway Deepak Kumar said.
Following trains have been cancelled: Firozpur Cantt Express, Amritsar Super Fast Express, Chandigarh Intercity Express and Chandigarh to Amritsar Junction Express.
