Gurugram schools shifted to online classes after heavy rainfall caused waterlogging.
The DDMA advised schools and offices to reduce movement and ease traffic congestion.
Several roads, underpasses and key junctions were affected by rain-related disruptions.
Schools across Gurugram will conduct classes online on Tuesday after heavy rainfall triggered waterlogging and disrupted traffic movement in several parts of the district.
The Gurugram administration has advised government and private schools, educational institutions and corporate offices to shift to online modes and work from home, respectively, to reduce congestion on roads and allow civic agencies to carry out drainage and repair work.
The advisory was issued by Uttam Singh, District Magistrate-cum-Chairperson of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), following heavy rainfall in the city on Monday.
Rain Disrupts Traffic, Administration Issues Advisory
The DDMA said the decision was taken amid the possibility of continued waterlogging and traffic congestion across Gurugram.
“In view of the heavy rainfall in the district Gurugram on 24.08.2026, there are chances of waterlogging and traffic congestion. Therefore, all corporate offices and government and private schools/institutions in the district are advised to guide their employees to work from home from 25.08.2026, so that traffic congestion can be avoided and repair works of roads and drains can be carried out smoothly by civic agencies,” the official order stated.
The directive has been forwarded to the District Education Officer (DEO) and District Elementary Education Officer (DEEO) for implementation across schools. The Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPRO) has also been asked to ensure wider dissemination of the order.
Waterlogging Hits Key Roads
Heavy rainfall left several major roads, service lanes and underpasses waterlogged, affecting movement across the city during peak hours.
Traffic was impacted on stretches near the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway, Subhash Chowk and roads in sectors 45 and 52. At Subhash Chowk, school buses were reportedly stranded for around three hours due to water accumulation.
Visuals from the city showed students waiting inside buses stuck amid flooded roads, as commuters faced difficulties reaching their destinations.
Teams from the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) and Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) were deployed with pumps and machinery to remove stagnant water and clear blocked drainage channels.
Gurugram Records Up To 75 Mm Rainfall
Data released by the district administration showed that Gurugram tehsil recorded the highest rainfall in the district, receiving 75 mm between 8 am and 5 pm on Monday.
Badshahpur recorded 65 mm of rainfall, while Wazirabad received 64 mm during the same period. Kadipur and Harsaru recorded 40 mm each, followed by Manesar with 36 mm.
Sohna received 16 mm rainfall, Pataudi 12 mm and Farrukhnagar recorded 7 mm.
