The Election Commission on Friday announced that assembly elections will be held in Himachal Pradesh on November 12 and counting will be held on December 8.

The EC will formally issue the gazette notification for the polls on October 17 and the last date of nominations will be October 25.

While it was expected that Gujarat and Himachal polls would be announced together, the EC on Friday only announced the poll schedule for Himachal.

In Himachal, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is looking forward to coming to power for the second consecutive time. Traditionally, the BJP and Congress have alternated in power in the state.
