Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan was on Tuesday arrested outside Islamabad High Court. A video showing Pakistan Rangers surrounding Imran Khan and whisking him away to a vehicle has gone viral on social media.

According to the report in Dawn newspaper, PTI chief Imran Khan was arrested by Pakistan Rangers outside the court in Pakistan’s capital city Islamabad. The newspaper also quoted Khan’s lawyer confirming his arrest.

Imran Khan's party also shared the video, alleging he was "badly pushed". "Pakistan's people, this is the time to save your country. You won't get any other opportunity," the party said.

It also quoted his party colleague and PTI vice president Fawad Chaudhry confirming Imran Khan’s arrest.

The report also said Section 144 has been imposed in the capital city.

Former Pakistan PM Imran Khan’s detention follows several unsuccessful attempts, including a police raid at his residence in Lahore’s Zaman Park, to arrest Imran which he had managed to evade successfully.

The arrest also came a day after the powerful Pakistan Army slammed Khan for "highly irresponsible and baseless" allegations by him against a serving ISI officer without any evidence.

Imran Khan is currently facing over 140 cases related to terrorism, blasphemy, murder, violence, and inciting violence. The PTI chief was ousted from power in April after losing a no-confidence vote in his leadership, which he alleged was part of a US-led conspiracy targeting him because of his independent foreign policy decisions on Russia, China, and Afghanistan.

Khan, who came to power in 2018, is the only Pakistani Prime Minister to be ousted in a no-confidence vote in Parliament.
