It takes a lot of preparation for an actor to play a non-fictional character. From the look to the mannerisms, everything has to be perfect when a real-life persona is played on screen. For this, actors go through a lot of hard work and body transformation to get into the skin of the characters. We do have some examples of actors who have left the audience amazed by seamlessly playing the characters inspired by actual individuals.

Vicky Kaushal - 'Sam Bahadur'

Actor Vicky Kaushal played India's first Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw in Meghna Gulzar's directorial 'Sam Bahadur'. Vicky's performance was a perfect tribute to Manekshaw's contributions to the Indian Army, as he captured the nuances of his body language and persona with elan. 


Saiyami Kher- 'Ghoomer'

Saiyami Kher played a paraplegic cricketer Anima in 'Ghoomer' and she received lots of appreciation for her stellar act. She not only showcased her acting prowess but also paid homage to real-life paraplegic sportspeople. The film was based on real-life paraplegic sportsperson, Karoli Takacs, a Hungarian one-armed shooter who created history by winning two Olympic medals. 

Manoj Bajpayee - 'Sirf Ek Banda Kaafi Hai'

Actor Manoj Bajpayee's character PC Solanki in 'Sirf Ek Banda Kaafi Hai' was inspired by renowned lawyer PC Solanki. The courtroom drama is based on a true incident, where Bajpayee's character fought against a religious leader accused of sexual assault. The movie won lots of accolades.


Rani Mukerji - 'Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway'

Rani Mukerji's comeback in 'Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway' is a must-watch. It is the story of courage, resilience and real-life struggles of Sagarika Chakraborty played by Rani and her husband. The film sheds light on the complexities of cultural differences and the challenges faced by the couple against the backdrop of the Norwegian Child Welfare Services. 

Ishaan Khatter - 'Pippa'

Ishaan Khatter played Brigadier Balram Singh Mehta in 'Pippa'. Though the movie didn't do well, it resonated as a journey of righteousness. Ishaan pulled off the character with ease. 

Karishma Tanna - 'Scoop'

Karishma Tanna's 'Scoop'  was inspired by real events and Jigna Vora's memoir. It was on the life of journalist Jagruti Pathak, based on Vora's experiences. The actress beautifully portrayed the complexities of the character, bringing the character to life on screen. The show and Tanna herself won lots of awards this year. 

Kritika Kamra - 'Bambai Meri Jaan'

Kritika Kamra played Habiba Qadri in 'Bambai Meri Jaan' based on Hussain Zaidi's book. Her nuanced performance got her lots of praise from both critics and audiences. Her character was roughly based on the life and real-life female gangster, Haseena Parkar. 

Huma Qureshi - 'Tarla'

Huma Qureshi played chef Tarla Dalal in 'Tarla'. She beautifully captured the essence of the culinary icon's journey in the film.
