Day 2: An unbeaten partnership of 180 runs between Tom Blundell (90 not out) and Daryl Mitchell (97 not out) put New Zealand in a commanding position at Stumps on Day 2 of the ongoing first Test against England. After conceding a first-innings lead of 9 runs to the Three Lions, the Black Caps were 56/4 at one stage as Matty Potts (2/50) once again found himself among wickets. However, Blundell and Mitchell took New Zealand out of hot water.

In return, two wickets apiece from Trent Boult (2/15), Kyle Jamieson (2/20) and Tim Southee (2/40) helped Black Caps bounce back and reduce England to 116/7 by the end of the day.
