Lando Norris held off a late charge from McLaren team-mate Oscar Piastri to clinch his ninth career victory at the Hungarian Grand Prix.

Norris executed a brilliant one-stop strategy, spending 38 laps on the hard tyres to close Piastri's lead in the drivers' championship to nine points heading into the summer break.

The Brit had started in third and was overtaken by both George Russell and Fernando Alonso on the opening lap, but stormed back through the field to take the win.

But his triumph did not come easily, with Piastri threatening to overtake his team-mate on the penultimate lap, but he locked up as he attempted to go down the inside.

George Russell was able to come home in third after passing polesitter Charles Leclerc, who expressed his frustrations throughout to Ferrari because of their chosen strategy.

After stunning the McLarens in qualifying, Leclerc made an excellent start and led Piastri by three seconds heading into lap 10, with the latter also considering a one-stop strategy.

Following the first round of pit stops, Norris confirmed he would only come in for one change of tyres, knowing he would have to save them until the very end of the race.

Leclerc and Piastri came in for their second stop on laps 41 and 46, respectively, with the latter overtaking the Ferrari to give himself a clean run at his championship rival.

Norris sounded concerned heading into the final few laps, believing that the lapped cars had the possibility of making him lose the race lead with Piastri in pursuit.

And despite a nervy end from the McLaren pit wall, Norris was able to withstand Piastri's pressure to clinch the British team's 200th win in Formula One.

Data Debrief: McLaren dominate yet again

After the disappointment of not locking out the front row in qualifying, McLaren responded in style to continue their dominance in 2025.

Led by Norris, McLaren clinched their 11th win of the season, surpassing their best record in a single F1 season since 2005 (10). They have only ever achieved more race victories, in 1984 (12) and 1998 (15).

And they look set to smash that record with Piastri and Norris at the wheel. The pair registered McLaren's fourth consecutive one-two finish, just the second time they have managed to do so in the competition and their first since 1998.

It was also the first time in Hungarian Grand Prix history that the winner around the Hungaroring had not started from pole for the fifth consecutive edition.
