March 16, 2012 was the day of one of the greatest cricketing achievements. On this day, the legendary Sachin Tendulkar raised his bat for his 100th international century. It was the 2012 Asia Cup where India were up against Bangladesh at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur.. The Tigers won the toss and asked the MS Dhoni-led side to bat first. Tendulkar took his time and finally reached to his 49th ODI and 100th international century in 138 balls. He completed his century on the ball of Shakib Al Hasan and raised his bat for the final time in international cricket.
Tendulkar finished with 114 off 147. The century was a little slow and Bangladesh managed to restrict India to 289/5 before chasing down the total in the final over with five wickets in hand. The loss put India in a tricky situation and eventually they could not qualify for the final of the Asia Cup which Pakistan won.
Till date, Tendulkar remains the only player with 100 international centuries. In fact, no one is even near him in the list with the second best Virat Kohli having 82 tons.
Tendulkar, considered among the greatest ever to play cricket, finished his international career a year after his milestone century. He ended his career with 34,357 runs and apart from 100 tons, he also scored 164 international half-centuries. Most batting records till date are registered under his name and with international cricket shrinking day by day, he might lead many such batting lists forever.
