Limit the amount of time children spend online. If your child disappears into the bedroom for three continuous hours, find out what's going on. Use your browser's history file to find out where they've been.

Establish clear ground rules with your children for Internet use—and consequences for breaking them. Instal protective software like Net Nanny.

Instal caller identification facility on your phone so that you can identify the number the call is coming from. Inform the police of your suspicions.

Place your computer in the family room or any other open area of your home where the entire family can see it, monitor the activity, and use it.

Take the trip together. Take the time to see what your kids are doing online and what their interests are. If you don't know how to log on, get your child to show you.
