An exchange of fire erupted in the early hours of Wednesday, 16 July 2025, when security forces clashed with Maoist insurgents in Birhordera forest under Gomia police station in Jharkhand’s Bokaro district.

According to Inspector-General (Bokaro Zone) Kranthi Kumar Gadidesi, two Maoists were shot and killed by the security personnel during the operation, while a jawan from the CRPF's elite CoBRA unit also lost his life in the ensuing gunbattle.

Bokaro Superintendent of Police Harvinder Singh confirmed that search teams remain active in the area, seeking any remaining militants and gathering evidence. Efforts to formally identify the deceased Maoists are currently underway.

The encounter occurred amid ongoing operations against Maoist groups in Jharkhand, a region that has seen repeated clashes between insurgents and security forces.
