Three Delhi schools — Mother International School, Navy Children’s School and Bal Bharati School — received bomb threats on Monday, prompting security searches.
Authorities said nothing suspicious had been found at the schools so far, while further details about the threats were awaited.
The incident comes amid a series of bomb threats targeting schools in Delhi and elsewhere, including a threat that disrupted examinations at a Mohali school.
Three schools received bomb threats in the national capital on Monday, prompting authorities to carry out search operations, an official told PTI.
These include Mother International School in Hauz Khas, Navy Children's School in Chanakyapuri and Bal Bharti School in Chanakyapuri, according to the Delhi Fire Services.
Delhi has witnessed repeated waves of bomb-threat emails targeting schools and other public institutions. Earlier this month, several prominent schools received threats written in Punjabi. Police, bomb squads and dog squads searched the premises, but no explosives were found and the threats were subsequently declared hoaxes.
Earlier in the day, at Mohali in Punjab, panic erupted after a threatening email was received at Shivalik School in Phase-6, warning of blowing up the school with a bomb. Exams were underway in the school at the time of the threat, which were halted as a precaution, according to IANS.
A parent told IANS, "Today we received an emergency call regarding a bomb threat, in which it was said to pick up the children from school. I was at the hospitals, after which I've come to pick up the child. Today was their exam too, so the exam was stopped midway..."
Why Are Delhi Schools Receiving Repeated Threats?
The latest incident comes against the backdrop of a wider pattern of bomb-threat hoaxes in Delhi and other parts of India.
A recent investigation reported by Reuters found that Indian police had uncovered a network involving more than 500,000 fake Gmail accounts allegedly used to send hoax bomb threats. Investigators said the network had been active since 2022 and that some of the accounts were linked to threats against government offices.
Schools have repeatedly been targeted because bomb-threat emails can quickly trigger evacuations, emergency searches and disruption even when no explosive device is ultimately found.
Earlier on September 15, at least three schools in Delhi received bomb threat emails, prompting security checks and evacuation of students from the premises, according to PTI.
According to the Delhi Fire Service, it received a call from Army Public School in the Dhaula Kuan area.
Following the information, police and other emergency response teams were alerted and students were evacuated as a precautionary measure.
The British School, Sanskriti School and Sardar Patel Vidyalaya received the threatening messages on Tuesday morning. Delhi Police said calls from the schools, all located in the New Delhi district, were received between 10.30 am and 10.45 am.
Students and staff were moved out of the buildings as a precaution while anti-sabotage searches were conducted across the campuses. Nothing suspicious had been recovered at the time of reporting, police said. Investigators are examining the emails and attempting to trace their sender.
Informing parents about the evacuation, Sardar Patel Vidyalaya said: “Dear parents, the school has received a security threat. All students have been safely evacuated from the school premises. The police have been informed and are taking the necessary steps.”
