Political Row In West Bengal Over Thakurbari Temple

TMC and BJP have been alleging each other of disrespecting Thakurbari Temple in West Bengal.

A row has erupted between TMC and BJP in West Bengal with both parties alleging each other alleged disrespect to the Thakurbari Temple, the reports said.

Thakurbari Temple, a shrine has been electorally significant to Matua community, to which which both the TMC and the BJP have been trying to reach out to.

TMC has alleged that security personnel, attached to BJP leader and Union Minister Shantanu Thakur, entered the premises of Thakurbari Temple with their shoes on and manhandled women. 

TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee alleged that BJP has desecrated the sanctity of Thakurbari in the name of politics.

He condemned BJP and accused it of "shameful display of power".

Sharing pictures of the alleged ruckus at the temple, the TMC said, "Even women are not spared when it comes to  BJP's politics of hate and violence."

Union Minister of State for Ports and Shipping and BJP MP Shantanu Thakur, who is also a powerful Matua community leader, said "Surprised to see the goons themselves condemning the attack”
