The Bharatiya Janata Party’s Manipur unit on Friday wrote a letter to party national president JP Nadda, flagging public’s anger as the government remains unsuccessful in controlling the ethnic strife. A fresh bout of violence broke out in the state capital Imphal on Tuesday, a day after photos of the bodies of the two youths, who went missing in July, went viral on social media.

Top eight office bearers of the party wrote a letter to Nadda and sought a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi amid fresh tensions in the violence-hit state. They urged Nadda to push for the revocation of Article 355 and restore the unified command to the chief minister to restore people’s confidence, Times of India reported. Under Article 355, the Union government gets to make decisions on several aspects of security amid continuing unrest in a state.

A mob on Thursday night tried to attack the ancestral house of Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh, but security forces foiled the attempt, the police said. “Public anger and protest are now slowly turning the tide, putting the sole onus of this prolonged disturbances solely into the failure of the government in dealing with the situation,” the BJP leaders said in the letter.

The letter also said that acute difficulties faced by the residents in their day-to-day lives are playing a major role in dealing with the new developments. A CBI team is currently investigating the killing of the two students - a man and a girl- in the northeastern state which has been witnessing ethnic strife for nearly five months.
