In a latest development, Kolkata Police on Friday arrested one more person in connection with the massive fire at a Kolkata hotel that claimed 14 lives.
Khurshid Alam, an interior decorator and the accused, was picked up from his Park Circus home, taking the total number of arrests in the case to three.
What did the Police say?
Police suspect construction works on the hotel’s first floor may have intensified the blaze.
"Rules were flouted by this person while conducting interior decoration works. Certain inflammable articles were used, which helped the fire to spread," the officer told PTI.
On Thursday, police arrested the owner and the manager of Rituraj Hotel, two days after the devastating fire engulfed the six-storey property at Mechhua Falpatti in the city's Burrabazar.

On April 29, a massive fire broke out around 7:30 pm in the six-storey Rituraj Hotel and quickly engulfed the building, trapping several of the 88 guests lodged in 42 rooms at the time, resulting in 15 fatalities and numerous injuries.
The report suggests the majority of the victims died due to suffocation, while a few reportedly jumped off upper floors in panic and got injured.
