An Indian national was killed in a deadly clash in Sudan between the army and rival paramilitary force RSF, the officials said on Sunday.

The slain has been identified as Albert Augestine.

Augestine, the officials said was injured yesterday by a stray bullet following the clashes between the Sudanese Army and the RSF.

The Indian Embassy in Sudan in a statement said: “It has been reported that Mr Albert Augestine, an Indian National working in a Dal Group Company in Sudan who got hit by a stray bullet yesterday succumbed to his injuries”.

It added: “Embassy is in touch with family and medical authorities to make further arrangements”.

The deadly clash so far as per the doctors’ groups has left at least 27 dead and 180 wounded, with the toll expected to rise.

The clashes capped months of heightened tensions between the Army armed forces and the RSF. Those tensions had delayed a deal with political parties to get the country back to its short-lived transition to democracy, which was derailed by an October 2021 military coup.

After a day of heavy fighting, the military ruled out negotiations with the RSF, instead calling for the dismantling of what it called a “rebellious militia.” The tough language signaled that the conflict between the former allies, who jointly orchestrated the 2021 coup, was likely to continue.
