How do you rate the Congress' prospects?
We are just not in the reckoning. The Congress does not stand a chance. It is no longer a major force in the Valley. A few individual leaders will win. But that will be on account of their own standing, not because of the party.
Will Mufti Mohammad Sayeed's induction help Congress?
At this juncture Mufti's induction is a negative thing. Mufti represents those forces against Farooq Abdullah. And let's face it, Farooq may be able to do some good for the state. Mufti and those with him in the Congress want to keep Farooq out. Remember why Mufti quit the Janata Dal because the JD was against talking to the Hurriyat Conference.
The Congress seems divided. Will there be a split at the state level?
The party is dwindling. The rot is there in Delhi. Narasimha Rao is presiding over the ruin of the Congress. He has destroyed the very fabric of the party. The same thing is happening here. People like Ghulam Rasool Kar and the Mufti are destroying the party. The cadre is disgusted with the way things have been going. The Mufti's people have been given tickets while deserving candidates have been left out.
There is speculation that you may quit the Congress and join the National Conference.
I am not leaving the Congress. But I will do all I can and support every move which will bring Farooq Abdullah to power.
