Blast Near Golden Temple In Amritsar Leaves Pedestrians Injured, Investigation Underway

On Saturday night, a blast near the Golden Temple in Amritsar left several pedestrians injured. According to The Tribune, the incident occurred near a parking lot in front of Saragarhi Sarai, shattering windowpanes of a nearby restaurant and Saragarhi Sarai.

The cause of the blast is yet to be determined and forensic teams are investigating the incident. A police official said the blast apparently occurred in a chimney of a restaurant at the Heritage Street. The police have appealed to people to maintain peace, and have assured that the situation is under control.

The blast was heard within a one-kilometer radius. Forensic teams have arrived at the scene to investigate the cause of the explosion, police said on Sunday

The Amritsar police released a statement on Sunday urging citizens to not panic in response to a viral social media post about a blast in Amritsar. The statement confirmed that an investigation is underway to establish the facts of the incident and that the situation is under control. The police advised citizens to maintain peace and harmony and to fact-check before sharing news on social media.

According to Karandeep Singh, a devotee who witnessed the incident, a few girls who were traveling in an auto-rickshaw were hit by shards of glass and sustained minor injuries after the explosion. The girls had come from Panchkula in Haryana to pay their respects at the Golden Temple.
