BJP To Finalise Candidates For Karnataka Elections, List To Be Announced On April 9

Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said that an "important meeting" will be held today under the guidance of JP Nadda, during which discussion of the 224 seats will be done. He said the meeting of the parliamentary board will be held tomorrow.

Bommai earlier said that the State Election Committee has shortlisted three names per constituency and the Parliamentary Board will finalise the list of candidates. The Parliamentary Board is the BJP's highest decision-making body. Karnataka BJP strongman and former chief minister B S Yediyurappa is a member of the Board.

According to reports, the list will be announced on April 9.

Bommai told reporters, "Opinions have been gathered from constituency and district level, after which the State Election Committee has discussed and has shortlisted three names (per constituency), it will be discussed and finalised by the Parliamentary Board in Delhi."

The Congress on Thursday released its second list of 42 candidates. It has so far finalised 142 candidates for the polls. The first list of 100 candidates was released earlier. The candidates were finalised at a meeting of the Central Election Committee headed by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Wednesday.

Ticket aspirants are waiting for the BJP to announce the list of candidates, with election date approaching.

Election notification will be issued on April 13, while the last date for filing nominations is April 20.
